Like most young couples, we are a couple blessed with good careers and make enough to enjoy the finer things in life. And as it holds true for all people pursuing a career and a family, we are always too occupied with our professional commitments and thus end up having no time for ourselves as a family. Hence, we really look forward to take out time and plan a vacation to some far off place, some unexplored destination where we can unwind and have good quality time together as a family.
But on second thoughts I feel, is my quest to travel to new destinations only for the purpose of quality time with my family or something more beyond that? Well, to make a very honest confession, travelling and holidaying is honestly more of an indulgence, a hobby, it kind of gives me a sense of liberation. I am sure most of us who go on vacations regularly would agree with me.
For Gen X, travelling and holidaying is also more about a status factor. Lets face it, we are all living in a virtual world. Everybody is more connected on virtual social networks rather than in real world, we share all our moments on these public forums and just love to see how many likes we get on our status and pictures. Travelling and holidaying besides a break has also become more of a lifestyle need. It is a way by which we really want to impress our friends that look we are going places. else, what is the justification behind sharing pictures of all the destinations we visit immediately after we are back on facebook or twitter. People think again, are you travelling for your own inner happiness or are you doing it more under peer pressure and to show people how many places you are going to?
Though most of you may not agree with me, but if you are genuinely travelling and holidaying for quality time with yourself and your family, posting pictures even when on the move on social networking sites is not that important. I confess that in between sub-consciously I was getting into this trap of visiting places and constantly posting status and pictures about my holiday. Believe me I realised only later that instead of enjoying the place and time I was more hooked onto my laptop or phone to upload pictures and my thoughts. Later I realised looking at pictures that in the process of capturing the moment in the camera and sharing it with the world I just missed out enjoying some lovely moments of my life. After a deep thought I realised that let me not forget the true spirit and essence of coming for a holiday.
When travelling and visiting a new place, enjoy your moments to the fullest. Do not mix your virtual world with your private world. Enjoy those moments, they will not come back. Capture memories and do share them. Your travelling experiences should be good memories and not just capturing the moment that you actually loose out on experiencing emotionally some of your best travel experiences. though I have been to quite a number of places, I will share with you experiences of places where I lived in the moment and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Till then, happy holidaying with your loved ones. Adieu till we meet again :)
